The UMD Oral Communication Center (OCC) was founded in 2012 with the mission of offering those at the university high quality consulting services in oral communication by our very own UMD students. The OCC, housed in the Department of Communication, provides assistance for faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and more who want to enhance their communication skills for success in the academic, professional, and social settings.
Clients who book appointments with our trained peer consultants benefit from our peer-to-peer tutoring model. Our consultants are expert facilitators and public speakers but they’re also students who know what it is like to struggle with the stressors that come with oral communication. Because of this, we have dedicated consultants and peer mentors who have a passion for empowering others as communicators.
